Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt arrived on Thursday, October 9 in London, for a very special meeting with the Queen of England herself. The actress was given recognition for her advocacy against sexual violence, and was made an honorary dame by Queen Elizabeth herself.  Damehood is a recognition given for services to the United Kingdom foreign policy and the campaign sexual violence during wartime. Although she cannot officially be a dame, because she is an American citizen, she can use the initials of the award after her name. This  is recognition is the Angelina Jolie latest news. The actress has lately been making headlines for her personal life, her career, and her humanitarian work.

The

star was given the award’s insignia in a private ceremony at the Buckingham Palace, with the Queen and several select witnesses. Reportedly, Angelina’s husband, actor Brad Pitt was there for the ceremony, as well as all of their six children.

In her younger years, the actress made more headlines because of here raw portrayal of challenging film roles, such as her Academy Award winning performance in the film.  She also made controversial news with her “bad girl” ways, and then later on for her skills as a female action star. But in recent years, the Angelina Jolie latest news has the actress portraying a different kind of role — that of UN ambassador and women’s rights advocate.

Last June, the 39 year old actress was the co-chair of the global summit on the End Sexual Violence in Conflict (ESVC) also in London, with William Hague, who was then the foreign secretary. It was then that it was announced that she will be receiving the award. “To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to,” the actress said. “Working on the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative and with survivors of rape is an honour in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.”
