Cain Velasquez news features UFC President Dana White’s praises for the reigning UFC heavyweight champion’s huge following in Mexico.
In a report by
the always outspoken UFC president was astounded at how Cain Velasquez was well received in his home country.
“I wouldn’t even go to Mexico without Cain Velasquez,” White said about the Cain Velasquez news. “Cain Velasquez is a huge star, too. When you have an entire country that’s going to follow and support you, there’s nothing bigger than that.”
Rightfully so, Cain Velasquez is one of the most decorated heavyweights that the UFC has ever had. A product of the famed American Kickboxing Academy where he trains with another light heavyweight top contender Daniel Cormier, the 31-year old Mexican fighter is a former NCAA Division I wrestler and holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
He burst into the mixed martial arts scene when he made his UFC debut in 2008, and since then he never looked back as he demolished every opponent thrown at him. Some of the notable names he defeated are Cheick Kongo, Minotauro Nogueira, Ben Rothwell, Bigfoot Silva, and former champion Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos.
While he holds a lone defeat against “Cigano” when they fought the first time in November 2011 during the UFC’s debut broadcast with the FOX Sports Network, he was able to avenge the loss twice and successfully defend his title.
Cain Velasquez news revealed he is scheduled to face another dangerous opponent in Fabricio Werdum on November 15 at UFC 180 in Mexico City.
As for Dana White, he is expecting the entire country to be behind Cain Velasquez, just like how Canada usually was with Georges St-Pierre.
“You can argue it’s Jon Jones, it’s Ronda [Rousey], they don’t have Canada riding on their backs,” White further said about the Cain Velasquez news. “They don’t have Mexico riding on their backs.”
“When you can get a whole country behind you, that’s when you know what a big star you are,” he added.
