After releasing the first teaser for the live action film of “Cinderella,” Disney announces plans for another adaptation, this time of fairy tale favorite “Beauty and the Beast.”
The “Cinderella” movie trailer is an animation of the iconic glass slipper, zooming in on it’s crystal surface. It eventually pans out to show a butterfly flutter close and freezes to become a part of the shoe. The “Cinderella” feature film will still follow the classic rags to riches story. However, it slightly veers away from the original plot with Ella meeting and befriending Prince Charming, Kit, in the woods before the royal ball.
She also does not recognize him as the prince and instead thinks he is a palace help. Her fairy godmother, in the form of a beggar, helps her out when her stepmother rips her dress up. The cast includes “Downtown Abbey” star Lily James as the titular Ella and
“Game of Thrones’”Richard Madden as Prince Charming, Kit. Helena Bonham Carter plays the fairy godmother with Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine, Ella’s stepmother, Holliday Grainger and Sophie McShera as the stepsisters and Ben Chaplin as Ella’s father. Kenneth Brannagh is directing the film.
Meanwhile, Variety revealed Disney’s plans to remake the classic “Beauty and the Beast” on June 4. The announcement was made after the recent “Sleeping Beauty” live action adaptation, “Maleficent,” became a box office hit shortly after release. Bill Condon will direct the new film. With widely successful movies “Dreamgirls” and “Chicago” under his belt, Condon “is an ideal choice as director due to his familiarity with big musical numbers and adaptable stories” according to The Examiner. Avid fans can rest assured that the remake will be in good hands. While the
“Cinderella” movie is slated for theatrical release in March 2015, there is still no specified date for “Beauty and the Beast.”
