Jason Momoa is Aquaman in Batman vs Superman crossover; Khal Drogo may have been killed off early in HBO’s “Game of Thrones”, but its actor fills the shoes of a lesser superhero in the upcoming DC flick.
Reports of Momoa being considered for the role of Aquaman have been percolating for the past several months, and the rumors are all but confirmed as part of a succession of leaks related to the upcoming DC epic: “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Variety.com confirms Momoa for the Aquaman role, after months of speculation. Momoa is also reported to reprise the same role in “Justice League,” DC Comic’s response to Marvel’s “The Avengers.” (
Casting for the “Justice League” prequel has been predicted and speculated as early as December. Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck were confirmed for the roles of Superman and Batman early on.
Notable are the actors reported to fill the shoes of newcomer Wonder Woman, as well as Superman’s arch-enemy Lex Luthor. Gal Gadot and Jesse Eisenberg are expected for the roles, respectively. Fans of the The Dark Knight will also see a new Alfred in Jeremy Irons.
DC’s Aquaman Batman vs Superman crossover epic is slated for a May 6, 2016 launch, after being postponed for production issues. Momoa became famous as Khal Drogo in the early seasons of “Game of Thrones,” and the Aquaman role is expected to be a perfect fit.
Fans compare Aquaman to Thor, at least for DC enthusiasts. Insiders consider Momoa’s casting as a way to validate Aquaman’s position in the Justice League.
Momoa is bulked up for the role, a departure from the traditional Aquaman physique. Cavill and Affleck are also expected to put on muscle mass to match, and it’s likely the beginnings of the Justice League (and character spin-off) franchise will be dramatic (
