The match between Costa Rica and Greece is something nobody would have expected as thw World Cup started. The two teams are not even considered as favorites, but here they are in the Round of 16 for their first match. However, only one team can prove their prowess as they progress on. Will it be the Los Ticos or the Soviets?
Ultimately, Costa Rica was only considered a fluke in the Group D, which is widely considered as the Group of Death. However, they proved everyone wrong as they come out to be the cluster’s number one team, beating Italy, England, and Uruguay.
The team coach, Jorge Luis Pinto will most likely retain the same line up for this Round of 16 match. Much pressure is put on Arsenal forward Joel Campbell, who is the reason for a single point in their 3-1 victory against Uruguay. He will be playing against some of his ex- teammates from the Olympiakos, too. Everyone should watch out for his clash with ex- Fulmam forward Brayan Ruiz.
On the other hand, Greece’s fate on the Round of 16 is quite made up solely of good luck. After former Celtic star Girogos Samaras made a last minute penalty shot in their match against Ivory Coast, the team miraculously made it to the next level, following Colombia’s footsteps.
Team boss Fernando Santos is also expected to present the same line up for this match. Offence will be taken care of Samaras, Bologna’s Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, and PAOK’s Dimtris Salpingidis.
Greece goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis had an injury prior to their last match against Ivory Coast, but is expected to be present for the game. On the other hand, Bologna midfielder Panagiotis Kone will not be. The captain, Kostas Katsouranis, is perceived to be replaced by Girogos Karagounis one more time.
