Immigration officers in the UK are investigating allegations of Emma Watson hiring an American housekeeper without proper documentation, the Mirror Online reports.
he woman has allegedly been working at the “Harry Potter” star’s £2 million London home on a tourist visa, which permit foreigner to work in the country. The report claims that the housekeeper spent three months in Britain from September 2013 to February this year.
The maid first started working for the “Bling Ring” star at her apartment in New York early last year.
order Agency started the probe after a complaint was made about the housekeeper supposedly traveling with Watson to and from the UK while being paid to help the actress out.
A source told Mirror that it was in one of those trips to London that the housekeeper was stopped by a UK immigration staff and was questioned on how she will be funding her stay in the country. The report also states that the woman’s services ended on February of this year and has since gone back to the United States.
ccording to Mirror, the 24-year-old actress can be fined for £10,000 as a civil penalty should it be found that she breached immigration rules. Prosecution, however, may be avoided if the “Perks Of Being A Wallflower” star can produce papers or documents proving that they exerted every effort to obtain the proper immigration status of the worker.
Although The Home Office could not talk about individual cases, a source has told Mirror that “an allegation has been received and processed and has been allocated for further action.”
