“House of Cards” season 3 spoilers will not come from showrunner Beau Willimon’s mouth even as fans tried to pressure him into revealing the show’s secrets at the event sponsored by Smithsonian Associates. Frank Underwood and Claire Underwood’s healthy marriage seems to set the show apart from the other political drama.
While the series was renewed for another season, Beau Willimon refused to give “House of Cards” season 3 spoilers “despite the audience’s pleas,” said. Instead, he replied, “hashtag shrug,” referring to the Twitter jargon when sharing tweets.
While he did not give “House of Cards” season 3 spoilers, he did say that they envisioned Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) living somewhere in Georgetown when they first conceptualized the movie. Most of the filming, however, is done in Baltimore, Maryland due to tax incentives and less rigorous permits.
Beau Willimon also said that most the staff who worked on “House of Cards” never worked with television before, and that’s why it has a feel of a movie.
“We often joke when we talk about it that it’s a 13-hour movie and oftentimes on sets we talk about it as a movie. But, I think in general any distinctions between television and film are quickly falling away,” he told the audience.
In another interview with during the recent ATX Television Festival, the creator said that Frank Underwood and Claire Underwood’s healthy marriage is a deliberate decision when they decided to adapt the series from the version for the American audience.
“One of the things you don’t see in the version as much is an emphasis on the marriage. The wife feels very much like a secondary character. We didn’t want to do that with our show. One of the very first things I said to (director David) Fincher when we spoke is, ‘I want this to be as much a story about a marriage as it is about power in Washington,'” he said.
