J Cole And Dreamville Hold Surprise Shows For ‘Revenge Of The Dreamers’; Rapper Set For HBO Docuseries

J. Cole and his Dreamville family launched “Revenge of the Dreamers” by holding surprise shows earlier this month. The free and unannounced concerts also drummed up publicity for the rapper’s HBO docuseries.

According to a report from HipHop DX , J. Cole and Dreamville’s shows for “Revenge of the Dreamers” were held in three New York music venues. The places were namely gypsy-themed lounge DROM, premier independent music venue Cake Shop and a live world music venue and restaurant named SOB’s.
To promote what urban fans called a “concert crawl,” the team behind the gimmick hyped up the event with flyers posted around New York City.
To add to the series’ grassroots approach, J. Cole’s Dreamville crew went to the “Revenge of the Dreamers” launch event by foot and subway.
During the concert series, the 30-year-old hip-hop star performed songs off “Revenge Of The Dreamers II” for the first time, including “Folgers Crystals.”
The “In The Morning” rapper was accompanied on all three venues by rap artists Cozz, Bas, Omen and newly signed Dreamville rapper Lute.
“Revenge Of The Dreamers II” was launched as a surprise release earlier this month, with features from musicians Donnie Trumpet, Ari Lennox and Correy C.
After the highly-praised surprise rollout of J. Cole and his crew’s “Revenge of the Dreamers,” the German-born rapper again surprised his fans by signing up to do a documentary miniseries with HBO.
The Verge  reported that J. Cole was initially only working with the said channel for a concert film entitled “Homecoming.” The Scott Lazer-directed TV special is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 9, 2016 and will feature performances from the rapper’s recent LP 2014 Forest Hills Drive in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
However, J. Cole’s concert movie was eventually revealed to be the finale of a five-part docuseries. The first episode premiered on on HBO Now and Vimeo last week.
The documentary will detail the surprise launch of 2014 Forest Hills Drive, as well as the concert tours that supported the album.
The show will also narrate several details from J. Cole’s life story through elected interviews with his friends and family, as well as his own confessionals.
