The lonely airport singer stuck overnight at the Las Vegas airport took the opportunity to make a video of himself lip-syncing to Celine Dion’s All By Myself.
The video, posted Sunday, now has 9.7 million views, including Celine Dion!
Celine Dion is offering free show tickets — and a little companionship — to a guy who turned a lonely night in the Las Vegas airport into a hilarious video.
If you haven’t seen the clip… Richard Dunn is in the airport all alone, late at night, doing an incredible lip-sync version of Dion’s “All By Myself.”
Celine tells us … she LOVED Dunn’s performance. She even videotaped him a personal message … telling him to look her up next time he’s in town … and making him a very personal offer.
Shot on his iPhone, the video shows Richard Dunn of Canton, Ga., lip-syncing while sitting by himself in a waiting area, riding up an escalator and walking through the deserted terminals of McCarran International Airport.
In a video response posted Thursday to Dunn’s video, Celine Dion said, “Hi Richard, I have to say, the video was hilarious and very touching.”
Dion said next time Dunn is stuck by himself at the airport, he should be a guest at her show and could even use her bathroom.
Earlier Thursday, Dunn told USA TODAY Network that he spent three to four hours shooting the video and sang the song at least 50 times.
Returning home from a job as a lighting designer, Dunn had volunteered to take a later flight and would not fly out until early morning.
“I thought, If I stay here, it’s going to be empty and I should do something,” he said. Dunn said he shot all of the scenes by himself using jerry-rigged set-ups. For example, in a moving walkway shot, Dunn said he taped his iPhone to a ruler and then taped the ruler to a wheelchair. The escalator shot required taping his phone to a water bottle and a computer bag, he said. Dunn listened to the song over and over on his iPad as he shot the video.
“By the end of it, it was frustrating because my battery was dead and my phone was full,” he said.
Dunn calls himself a “video hack” who shoots videos as a hobby. He said he was excited when the video had a couple thousand views. “I think what’s hitting people is someone saw an opportunity and took it,” Dunn said.
And how is Dunn so good at the lip-syncing? He admits the song was once a “guilty pleasure.” Celine Dion “soothed a broken heart or two in my life,” Dunn said.
