Due to Angelina Jolie’s comments at a Shanghai press release for “Maleficent,” the movie might be cast out of China. The controversy started when Jolie was asked who was her favorite Chinese director. The “Maleficent” star answered Ang Lee, who happens to be Taiwanese. “I am not sure if you consider Ang Lee Chinese, he’s Taiwanese, but he does many Chinese-language films with many Chinese artists and actors.” said Jolie, according to. “I think his works and the actors in his films are the ones I am most familiar with and very fond of.” After Jolie referred to Lee as Chinese, China is allegedly considering casting out “Maleficent.” Supposedly the country could go as far as banning the actress and the release of her Disney movie. To add more insult to injury, a user on Weibo called the actress a “deranged Taiwan independence supporter.” This scandal follows the Chinese government allowing Jolie’s baby daddy Brad Pitt back into the country for the press tour of “Maleficent.” In 1997 Pitt was banned from the country after filming “Seven Years in Tibet.” Does China have every right or is this being blown way out of proportion?
