Manny Pacquiao news is up as it features his promoter Bob Arum’s denial on the news about the possible mega fight against Floyd “Money” Mayweather in Dubai.
Earlier this month, UAE fight promoter Prince Amir Shafipour boldly released a statement saying that he can make the much-anticipated Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight happen in Dubai in 2015.
“I will honestly and truthfully tell you that if anyone can convince them to fight, and to fight in Dubai, I can,” Shafipour told. “I have a lot of worldwide connections, with managers, promoters, fighters, people in the business, who speak the same language that Mayweather and Pacquiao are speaking.”
“I am currently working with a major boxing promoter in the USA, who is connected to both the Pacquiao and Mayweather camps, and who has the capacity to help me pull this off,” he added. “It’s not a boast, it’s a commitment.”
However, Bob Arum delved further on the Manny Pacquiao news, as he questioned Shafipour’s background and legitimacy.
“I don’t know who this fellow is and he’s never talked to me or anybody in the Pacquiao camp,” Arum told Philippine news outlet. “But over the years, we have met more alleged princes from Dubai than there are princes from Dubai.”
“But he was as much a prince as you are,” he continued. “The last guy says he was a prince from Dubai. Turned out, he was born from Brooklyn, New York.”
The 82-year old promoter spoke further about the Manny Paquiao news, and went as far as describing Shafipour’s statements as a scam.
“It’s a scam,” Arum added. “I don’t know about this fellow. Maybe he is honest, maybe he is not honest.”
Arum, however, did not completely close his doors on the matter, adding that if Shafipour’s legitimacy has been proven, the mega fight may very well happen in Dubai.
“If they’re legitimate, why wouldn’t we be willing to talk with them and negotiate with them? But I’m very, very skeptical,” he said.
