Just recently, Alcon entertainment announced that some of the world’s greatest athletes will be joining the cast of “Point Break” remake. Surfers Brian Keaulana, Makua Rothman, Ahan Tson-dru and Bill Kemper are all set to show off their tricks in the film.
Other famous athletes that are set to appear in the film include free climber Chris Sharma, snowboarders Ralph Backstrom, Lucas De Bari, Mitch Toelderer, Xavier De La Rue, and Mike Basich; motorcyclists Oakley Lehman and Riley Harper; and wingsuit stunt pilots Jon Devore, Jeb Corliss, Noah Bahson, Julian Boulle, and Michael Swanson.
With an all-star cast of athletes, the producers of “Point Break” remake may have a change of heart once they see the performance of professional baseball player Andre Ethier. The Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder recently starred as Johnny Utah in the live theater version of the 1991 surf action film in New York.
The live theater show started in Los Angeles, but now it also runs in New York. They select one audience to play Johnny Utah, which was originally played by Keanu Reeves in the Kathryn Bigelow film. That particular night, Andre Ethier was lucky to be chosen.
This isn’t your typical Broadway show because it is more of a parody so you could expect a lot of ridiculousness from the 32-year old Major League player. He read the script from a piece of paper and even pretended to surf and skydive. It was really hilarious!
The “Point Break” remake already found its Johnny Utah and that is Aussie actor Luke Bracey. He was last seen in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” as Cobra Commander. He was supposed to star with Gerard Butler, but he had to drop the film due to conflict of schedule.
The “300” actor was replaced by Edgar Ramirez, who won an acting award for “Carlos”. Since the “Point Break” remake will still start its filming on June 26, then there is a chance for another re-cast. Do you think that Andre Ethier could do well as Johnny Utah in the “Point Break” remake?
