If Troian Bellisario didn’t audition for the role of Spencer Hashtings in ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars”, perhaps, viewers would witness a different chemistry than the four female core cast. The TV show could last more than seven seasons or just run in the TV for two seasons if Bellisario is not included in the cast, who knows?
Bellisario revealed during her interview with Larry King that she didn’t want to audition for the TV series because she never wanted to become a TV actress but rather a theater performer.
The 28-year-old actress said that she didn’t watch TV during her childhood as part of rebellion to her parents Donald P. Bellisario and Deborah Pratt who were both working on TV. She said during the interview with King, “My goal was to go to New York and become a theater and film actress. And it was actually the first pilot that I auditioned for … I was just thinking that I was going to move to New York.”
But then, she decided to give it a shot on a TV stint after her agent convinced her, saying that “They said, ‘Look, we think this show is going to be a huge hit.’ They were right. They were like, ‘It’s going to be good. Just audition. Just get seen by these people. You’ve just graduated. It’s important for you to go out and get your sea legs,” as published at Wetpaint.com. Bellisario was just a recent graduate of theater school in University of South Carolina when she auditioned for the role.
The actress, at first, didn’t believe she got the role of Spencer and even thought that the production made a mistake in getting her. When she read the script, she then felt connected until she successfully portrayed the role of “Pretty Little Liars'” fearsome brainiac. PLL fans definitely know what she was talking about.
When asked if she still has plans to step her feet on theater stage in spite of the success of the show, she replied, “Absolutely.”
