South Korea’s top tech giant, Samsung is reportedly prepping the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus with Snapdragon 808 processor, and a mammoth display size of 5.5-inches, to be released this year.
Looks like Samsung is not staying too far from its already successful design principles as the popular South-Korean smartphone maker’s new Galaxy S6 Edge Plus render has surfaced online.
@OnLeaks, a reliable tipster posted the render that shows off the huge S6 Edge Plus. The tweet also revealed quite a few details about the upcoming smartphone by Samsung.
Sporting a diagonal display size of 5.5-inches, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will be 154.45mm x 75.80mm x 6.85mm in size. The handset may not feature USB Type-C as the leaked render also shows a standard micro USB port.. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will reportedly utilize a Snapdragon 808 processor and run Android 5.1.1. The handset is expected to feature a 16MP camera, according to reports on Irish Examiner .
The Galaxy S6 Edge had a bent over due to curved edges, and those curved edges are also present on the Galaxy S6 Plus. Samsung interestingly switched back to Qualcomm, after it dropped the chip supplier for the S6 as well as S6 Edge, Forbes noted.
That being said, Samsung’s move to return to an external supplier for this crucial component will result in the build cost of the S6 Edge Plus going higher. It’s worth noting, however that the S6 series was the first time Samsung had supplied handsets with the Exynos system outside of its home territory in any big quantity.
Though the S6 Plus may be larger than the S6 and S6 Edge, there is a possibility that it will be slower than its predecessor. The Snapdragon 808 powers the LG G4 handset, and it has normally not been the match of the Exynos powered Galaxy S6 when tested alongside each other.
Samsung will reportedly announce the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in the coming weeks, and the handset will be released sometime between July and September this year.
