Showrunner Steven Moffat told newspaper that the format of the show is partly responsible for its eventual longevity. “Had we done the conventional form of a TV series which is to do runs of six or twelve, it would be over by now without doubt, it would be finished,” he said.
That means “Shelock” cast Benedict Cumberbatch, whose star potential seems to be on the rise in Hollywood, and Martin Freeman, who plays Dr. Watson, wouldn’t have committed to the show.
