Sherri Shepherd Latest News: After Sherri Shepherd’s silence has been broken regarding her divorce from current husband Lamar Sally, the Talk show host is facing another life-changing circumstance. ABC’s “The View,” revealed in a statement to Us Weekly on June 26 that Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy are leaving the show, having Whoopi Goldberg as the sole remaining cast member for now.
“The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” ABC stated.
“It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on,” Shepherd said in a personal statement to Deadline. “I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Gedde for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”
“My View will be changing too. As will with many hard working folks. Thanks to everyone at the show for your dedication and an amazing year,” McCarthy tweeted about leaving the show.
A source told E! News that the proposed overhaul came as a surprise to Shepherd and McCarthy.
“In Sherri’s case, there were negotiations but they were unable to reach an agreement,” a source hushed to US Weekly regarding Shepherd’s exit.
As for McCarthy, who just joined the show last September as a replacement for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the source says, “Jenny’s departure was the result of a decision to move the show in a different direction creatively.”
The View had Meredith Vieira, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos, Joy Behar, Lisa Ling, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Rosie O’Donnell as co-hosts.
Barbara Walters, The View’s cocreator and so-called lead voice, retired herself from the position just last month. She remains an executive producer of the show.
