Rumors of a Spider-Man cameo in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” started last October.
“I’m hearing that there are some very cool Spider-Man
plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the on screen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom’s minds,” said film critic Drew McWeeny of
What he said turned out to be true as Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios finally signed a deal last Monday, which means that there’s a chance that we will see Spider-Man in “Avengers 2.”
It could be a cameo, a post-credits scene, or a teaser trailer to hype up his appearance in future Marvel movies. Included in the contract is a “Spider-Man” installment, which will be released on July 28, 2017.
U.S. News, the web-slinging superhero will appear in an unspecified Marvel movie. It could be in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: Civil War” or parts 1 and 2 of “Avengers 3: Infinity War.” The website also reported that Marvel superheroes may also appear in future “Spider-Man” films so there’s a chance that we will see Iron Man, Captain America and Thor in the 2017 movie.
“We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchises and develop our characters. Marvel, Kevin Feige and Amy, who helped orchestrate this deal, are the perfect team to help produce the next chapter of Spider-Man,” Sony’s CEO Michael Lynton said as reported by
It will be interesting to see a new take on the iconic character since there have been reports that “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” didn’t do well in the box office. The movie earned over $709 million worldwide, making it the lowest grossing film in the Spider-Man series. Maybe Sony Pictures was alarmed by those numbers that’s why they decided to get help from Marvel.
“This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans,” said Lynton. Kevin Feige also expressed his excitement on the new tie-up. “I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie,” said Marvel Studios President.
