Universal’s N.W.A is currently in the works and cast members who will portray the roles of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E have already been named.
After almost six years, “Straight Outta Compton” is finally happening and Cube, Dre and the late Eazy-E’s wife Tomica Wright have all given their go on the actors who have landed the role, according to the
Cube will be portrayed by no less than his 23-year-old son O’Shea Jackson Jr., while Dre will be portrayed by Marcus Callender. The film’s lead character, Eazy-E, will be portrayed by Jason Mitchell.
In an interview with
MTV News, Cube revealed, “It’s in very good shape. Straight Outta Compton will be shot in August. So we have a director Gary Gray, he’s our director… so it’s full-steam ahead. I’m totally involved, I’m engulfed in it. This is our legacy, you can’t play with this, there’s no cutting corners. I’m fully engulfed in that movie, very anal about it. It gotta be right”
O’Shea has always been his father’s choice to play himself as a teenager and it seems that his wish definitely did come true. With the resemblance between the father and son, it’s most likely O’Shea would easily live up to his dad’s expectations.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dre’s Callender, happens to be a classically trained actor with involvements in Shakespeare and Chekov inspired plays. This means that working in actual production setting shouldn’t be challenging for him, AV Club reported.
Multiple sources also confirmed that Dre’s first option to reprise his character is Michael B. Jordan. However, he is set to star in the upcoming “Fantastic Four” reboot.
As for Mitchell, the actor has had roles alongside Mark Wahlberg in films entitled “Contraband” and “Broken City.”
Other details about the upcoming biopic have not yet been revealed and representatives for the three actors have not yet commented regarding the news.
