In recent news, Channing Tatum officially announced that he will star in an X-Men origins movie as Gambit. While promoting “22 Jump Street” in New York with co-star Jonah Hill, Channing confirmed that he will get his solo debut as Gambit in an origin movie before he performs as the mutant in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” The actor hopes to bring a unique approach to the series of X-Men films. “It will probably just be a standalone film before ‘Apocalypse.’ That’s if it does well. If it doesn’t do well I probably won’t make it into Apocalypse [laughs]. It would be an honor to get to do it. Marvel is such an amazing, huge machine,” said Channing to. “Just to get to embody the character would be an honor. We’re going to try and change it up a little bit and do something slightly different than what your normal superhero movie is. So we’ll see if it works.” Since “X-Men: Apocalypse” is allegedly coming to the big screen in May 2016, it can only be assumed that the Gambit spinoff will appear in the next two years.
